Intimation of Life Insurance Claim
Life insurance provides life cover to an individual. In case of unfortunate death of life insured, the life cover (Sum Assured) opted becomes payable to the nominees. As per the current guidelines, insurance company has to settle the claim within 30 days of receiving all the required documents. However in case of suspicious cases, the insurer is given time limit of 6 months to process the claim. If the claim is settled at a later stage, interest on claim amount is payable as well.
Mode of Intimation
The nominee has to intimate the claim to the insurer. The intimation can be done through the following means:

Documents required for submitting claim
Whenever a claim is to be made, certain set of documents has to be provided to the insurer. The documents will depend on the type of claim. For instance, for a normal death claim- death certificate, policy document, claimant’s statement, attending physician statement, photo and address proof of nominee etc. Whereas for waiver of premium claim, documents required would be policy documents, claimant statement, hospital records, diagnostic reports, disability certificate issued by civil surgeon, FIR etc. The insurer can ask for more documents if the situation demands it.
